Growing up, a variety of rescued dogs and cats were part of our family, and when they haven't been part of my family, I found ways for them to be in my life, such as with the 2 boys at the top of the page, Perseus and Loki, who I have been fostering long term and we feel like family.
Renting in a saturated housing market, I was unable to make a commitment to adopting a rescue dog, so did the next best thing, volunteering with the Animal Rescue League walking dogs to offer love, companionship & leash training while in the fresh air getting our endorphins flowing while they awaited their forever home. I was also fortunate enough to have the opportunity to volunteer for the annual rabies clinics.
With Grey2K I was a state volunteer coordinator & worked four years with the grassroots Committee to Protect Dogs campaign to successfully qualify the Greyhound Protection Act on the 2008 ballot, which voters passed to end Greyhound Racing by 2010.
Through Red Rover I was trained in the protocol for assisting animals in response to disasters, and, in 2008, worked for a week with other volunteers in Montreal to care for more than 100 dogs rescued by the Humane Society and the SPCA of Montreal after a puppy mill raid.
My second deployment was volunteering in 2011 for 9 days in Minot, ND caring for pets on behalf of their owners who were displaced by a torrential and historic flood.
I've fostered many cats and kittens over the years, a few long term, many short term, and have been blessed to be in the company of their crazy independent spirits, along with caring for some wonderful rabbits and chinchillas who warm my heart as they warm up to me.
I am grateful for the opportunity to give the best care possible and learning each day how to be of greater service and a better human.
I am fully insured and bonded.
